Location: Under the Waitrose car park, west of Back Lane.
Description: A pool surrounded by a square stone wall and subsequently buried beneath a car park.

The spring, also known as the Vine Well, was originally situated in the vineyard of the Benedictine priory, which was established in 1085. The vineyard later became the gardens of large houses that were built along the Worcester Road in the early 19th century. For many years it emerged as a walled pool surrounded by an unsightly muddy patch in an overgrown and under-used picnic area. In 1999 it was contained beneath the supermarket car park. The water was then fed to the new Back Lane Spouts.

This source also served as a domestic supply for local inhabitants in Graham Road. Before 1999 a least one house on the down slope side of Back Lane had the water piped in from the spring for domestic purposes.

Perhaps one day archaeologists will rediscover this historic and attractive spring, when the car park of Waitrose becomes redundant.
