Description: a spring and ditch which is now generally dry

There was once a prolific spring in the garden of Ivy House. Now it is usually dry, the water draining into a ditch that runs along the side of the ancient orchard. An old iron pump by the side door of the house still works and there is another pump on the side of an adjacent brick-built shed.

 
   
Stephen Ballard was born on 5th April 1804 at Ivy House in Malvern Link. His father Philip was a Herefordshire man who married Charlotte Baylis, who came from a well-known Ledbury family, on 27 January 1795 in Ledbury. The Ballard family were active in the Malvern Hills, both furthering the conservation of the hills as well as developing numerous commercial interests. The Ivy House pump and ditch are on private property. However just across Moorlands Road from the Ivy House spring site is the Nags Head public house. In recent times an iron hand pump has been mounted on a wall outside the establishment. Unfortunately it is not connected to a water source but it is decorated occasionally for the well dressing in May.
